Adarna x Fenghuang

Located in Vancouver’s Chinatown along Main Street, Adarna x Fenghuang, 2025 brings together mythological symbols from Filipino and Chinese cultural traditions. The mural pairs the Filipino Ibong Adarna, a legendary bird known for its healing song, with the Fenghuang, the Chinese phoenix associated with harmony, renewal, and balance.

By placing these two mythological birds in dialogue, the work reflects the layered cultural histories and communities that shape the neighbourhood. Flowing forms and vibrant colour echo the movement of wings and flame, symbolizing resilience, transformation, and the shared presence of Asian diasporic cultures within Vancouver’s public spaces.
